Financial Accountability

“Poverty calls us to sow hope…. Poverty is the flesh of the poor Jesus, in that child who is hungry, in the one who is sick, in those unjust social structures.” (Pope Francis, Meeting with Students of Jesuit Schools—Q&A, 6/7/13). We are also grateful for all that we have, knowing that it all comes from God’s hand (1 Chronicles 29:14b). We are also thankful for all our supporters who serve as conduits of his love. Therefore, we take our responsibility as stewards very seriously and commit ourselves to fulfilling the highest standards of integrity and openness in all our financial practices. It is also our desire to spend every dollar wisely and keep our administrative cost to a minimum.

We have set up the following guidelines for our organization:

  • We are governed by a responsible advisory boards who approve budgets and review operational results for projects and scholarship accomplishments.
  • We have an annual review and our financial statements which are prepared according to generally accepted accounting principles. Copies of our current financial statements are available upon request.
  • We seek to ensure that all donations are used for the purpose for which they were designated.
  • When carrying out fundraiser appeals, we shun high-pressure tactics.
  • Contributions to our campaigns are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by laws.

Over 90% of all our funding is given to the intended beneficiaries in need. The estimated 10% will be conservatively managed to offset the unavoidable operations cost requirements (e.g. credit cards processing fee, website maintenance costs, legal and insurance fees, etc...). Funds for  doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships will be available in USA for the awardees attending US Universities. All of our associates work on a volunteer basis.

The founder of Ziman Foundation (Prof. Youan as a full time US University Professor currently managing large research funds) has a proven track record of using public funding efficiently and effectively. We cherish all of our supporters. You can be assured that Ziman Foundation uses the valuable resources donors have provided in the most cost effective ways possible with direct collaboration with city governors or mayors on the field and 1-2 trips a year in Africa to follow up the actual implementation of the projects. Moreover, all the progress made will be soon published on this website with supporting videos and photos.

Our independently audited financial statements will show that nearly nine out of every ten dollars we spend goes to scholarship and elementary school building programs in regions that are in desperate need.
